Tuesday Signal: Will Big Data Save Us? We Can Pray.

(image) So early in the year, when pondering the annual theme of the year (also known as the Web 2 Summit theme), I figured we could not go wrong focusing on data as a key point of control in the Internet Economy. Seems a half year later, the world is agreeing. To the links:

The Limits of Big Data (RWW) Given the theme of Web 2 this year, this is a good counterpoint.

How Much Data Will Humans Create & Store This Year? [INFOGRAPHIC] (Mashable) A ton.

Bing Maps Unveils Exclusive High Res Imagery with Global Ortho Project (Bing Community) More big data for the Softies.
New Google Data Shows How Governments Seek To Control Online Content (PC) I love this. Even if it’s incomplete, it’s awesome. Data about data that we can’t see, because governments have asked it to be expunged.

WPP Creates Audience and Data Unit (ClickZ) Xaxis? Really? That’s the name for an audience driven buying platform? Who is in charge of naming stuff at agencies anyway?

The Shrinking of the Non-Social Web (ATD) People, listen. The web is bigger than “social.” The metaphor is all wrong. The web is mobile, and PC, and whatever else we figure out (chips in our ears?). It’s not some shrinking part of something else.

E-reader ownership doubles in six months (PEW) It’s a book, it’s a plane, it’s…the savior of publishing?
+1 around the world (Google Webmaster Central blog) Lots of new datapoints for Google.
Note to media: We are all brands now, so get used to it (GO) About time someone said that. Wait…

The Second Coming Of Vatican Social Media (FC) Because even the Pope needs him some data.

  1. Hi John …You ask ….Will Big Data Save Us? We Can Pray.

I’m sure that it will, and ‘by hook or, by crook’. It needs only to be ‘sold’ to the many users on the net, I guess? Re-assure them?

On Data (and, that opt-in/opt out problem), Adotas may well feel that by a person opting out, it should be hard not to feel like some spoiled people [who] are cheating the system – http://tinyurl.com/3vs68ba

Cheating the System? Shame them? This is the way?

So, isn’t ‘The Fox’ (and its many helpers – like Gavin and his article over @ Adotas), already, well and truly…Guarding the Hen House’?

    Thanks.
